Art Tours of Australia run small group tours in Central Australia that specialise in making art outdoors. We travel to some of the best and most remote places in the Red Centre, and to experience the wilderness landscapes intimately in low impact groups, all while learning from the oldest continuous culture in the world.
The landscapes of Central Australia are special. They have the unique ability to inspire artists and art lovers, and help us to connect to the ancient history of humanity that exists here.
We visit Aboriginal artists and cultural experts for authentic first hand knowledge sharing experiences, and explore the ancient desert to learn about the unique flora and fauna. We run trips with workshops for beginner artists, and help established artists with the logistics of making art outdoors in remote locations.
Adventure is at the centre of our philosophy, you can find us in the Art Tours of Australia 4WD, or camping out in swags around a campfire.
Join us for a small group tour specialising in ART.
We are based in Central Australia, on Arrernte Country, and run the majority of our trips here. We go to stunning natural landscapes near Alice Springs / Mparntwe, and travel into the West MacDonnell Ranges / Tjoritja.
Some of our regular trips go as far south as Uluru on Anangu Country. We are open to charter tour requests from art groups, and can take you more or less anywhere in Central Australia with our off-road camping set up.
Lots of our trips focus on art making and camping, but we also run trips for art lovers and people who prefer looking at and buying art, rather than make it themselves. These trips are ideal for people who want to learn more about Aboriginal art and Culture, and who want to buy authentic Aboriginal art from trusted art centres, and in some cases, directly from artists.
*Art Tours of Australia never takes a commission on Aboriginal art sales.
A watercolour painting class just 15 minutes from Alice Springs at the stunning Simpsons Gap. Watch the colours of the landscape change as the sun sets, while learning basic watercolour skills in a quiet sandy riverbed. Suitable for beginners. Cheese platter included.
Our half day art centre tour takes you to ionic art galleries and off the beaten track art centres in Alice Springs. It offers the perfect opportunity to deepen your knowledge about Aboriginal art & culture, while presenting the perfect opportunity to buy art from reputable sources.
If you’re looking for something totally customisable, this is the option for you. The Art Tours of Australia team can work with you to come up with an itinerary that blends your ideal mix of comfort and adventure.
EXCELLENT Based on 21 reviews Posted on bruce murchieTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Such lovely scenery to enjoy a very educational and enlightening Sunday afternoon to be shown and educated by the lovely Anna who spent time with each student educating us the 101 skills of use of water paints and the relevant techniques.Posted on Wendy LongeTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had an awesome afternoon visiting Rainbow Valley. It was a private tour and included a beautiful platter dinner and stargazing in the desert. We really enjoyed our tour guide’s company and she was very knowledgeable.Posted on Melissa ChenTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Went on this amazing tour hosted by Anna in late June 2024. It was by far the highlight of my Mparntwe/Alice Springs experience. Anna had some great tips and exercises to enable even a beginner like myself to give watercolour painting a go. Even the rain could not dampen the experience! Anna also organised a delicious cheese platter. I highly recommend this tour for both locals and tourists alike.Posted on Keith BrodieTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. What a great way to spend a few hours in Namatjira country in the West MacDonnell NP, learning the basics (so well explained by Anna) of water colour painting. Gave the right side of the brain a nudge!!!Posted on Caitlin PowyerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The sunset tour exceeded our expectations. Anna was friendly, welcoming and professional and we all felt comfortable straight away. She was very knowledgeable, not only teaching us many skills to be able to create our own artwork, but also sharing information about the land itself. The evening was well organised and catered for. I would highly recommend this tour whether you are an art lover or just looking to try something new.Posted on Ata TaraTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Fantastic tour allowing you to look at central Australian landscape through a different lens. I had no watercolour painting experience so welcomed Anna’s tips on techniques prior to the final landscape painting. Simpson’s Gap is always stunning & we saw it after a big rain.Posted on Chrissy GTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. 10/10 A wonderful tour that brought out the best in all of us on the tour!! Thanks Anna!Posted on Bianca RomeoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Not only is Anna a wonderful artist and teacher, but she has immense knowledge of the flora and fauna in these areas. Joining her for one of her watercolour sessions was a fantastic experience all-round.
